Field guide
Investment, adoption and opportunity are different measures
A framework for reading India's AI opportunity without treating an investment announcement as an economic outcome.
Separate three different claims
An investment commitment concerns capital. Adoption concerns use. An economic outcome concerns what changes after use. A large announcement can be important without yet establishing the other two.
| Claim | Evidence to seek |
|---|---|
| Investment | Committed versus spent capital, dates, recipients and project status. |
| Adoption | Defined users, active deployments, sample coverage and comparison periods. |
| Outcome | Productivity, access, cost or earnings measured against an explicit baseline. |
Read the local definitions
Check geography, currency, price adjustment and the population measured. A statistic about one city, industry or platform can be useful without representing the entire country.
World Bank indicators ↗ provides definitions and country series. India’s Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation ↗ and Reserve Bank of India ↗ are primary starting points for local statistics and policy.
Add people who know the setting
Data is easier to interpret alongside local operators and researchers. The India Opportunity ↗ is a featured third-party conversation series on this site.
This entry provides a reading framework. It makes no current estimate of India-wide AI adoption or investment returns.
